OUR WORK
Michael Fields Agricultural Institute-
East Troy, Wisconsin
Michael Fields Agricultural Institute has a rich cultural heritage. Our founders, research assistants, volunteers, staff and family members bring a diversity that ignites and enriches our work. We are a deeply inquiring organization whose commitment to the land and its inhabitants is textured by our individualities.
Research, education and innovation are the lifeblood of our dedication to economic, environmental and social healing through agricultural solutions. In the field, classroom, laboratory, legislature, collaborations, or design and activity of our organization we strive to bring consciousness and accountability to our relationships and our work.
Michael Fields serves as convener, educator, researcher, advocate and innovator grounded in the principles and realities of a whole farm approach to addressing the issues of our time. A farmer surveys her field, running the soil through her fingers as she crouches low to the land where her vision will ripen. All her senses are alert to what is being asked of her by the land, to the crop it promises, and to the people she serves at the most fundamental level, the food we eat and the health and vitality it imparts.
It is this vitality that streams through our thinking and activity to our work in East Troy, Milwaukee, Madison, Chicago, the Upper Midwest and in the regions of the world that our collaborators, students, interns and volunteers return after enriching our culture with theirs.
Our website will portray the lives and livelihoods of those who carry the results of our partnerships into the world. Our story is their story.
